The Consumer Electronics Association, owner and producer of the International CES, unveiled the results of an independent audit that confirmed a record number of international professionals – 40,828 (a 12.7 percent increase from the 2013 CES) – attended the 2014 International CES from 144 countries. Steve Moster, president of Global Experience Specialists, and his team had cause to celebrate with the latest earnings report, which posted an uptick in revenues, operating income and same-show growth in their division for the first quarter of this year. Moster said the 3.9 percent uptick in same-show growth “bodes well” for the overall industry, as shows continue to climb back to pre-recession levels. The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas already boasts 1.7 million square feet, and now it’s set to add another 350,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, as well as more underground parking and carpeted ballroom space. More and more shows are grappling with the issue of having their attendees duped by fraudulent housing companies that lure them in with cheap rates, take their money and then, when they show up onsite, there literally is no room at the inn. “We get clobbered over the head with this in Las Vegas,” said Larry Schur, president and COO of All Baby & Child, which runs ABC Kids Expo. With that in mind, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research released its latest report - Exhibition Floor Interaction: What Attendees Want – that takes a look at how attendees want to engage on the showfloor. More than 18,000 buyers from 112 countries and regions took part in the 6th HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition).
