London-listed media company, UBM, released its full-year results for the year ended 31st December 2011. UBM’s revenues were up 9.3 percent year-on-year from £889 million to £972 million. Adjusted group operating profits increased 18 percent from £172 million to £202 million. Revenues from the company’s events business, which accounted for more than 40 percent of overall revenue, were up 28% year-on-year at £397 million, compared with last year’s £310 million. The International Roofing Expo recently saw a 3-percent increase in attendees to 8,382 when it ran Feb. 22-24 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. This year’s increase was the second one in a row for the show, which is owned by Hanley Wood Exhibitions and had an 18-percent increase for its 2011 event. “We are very pleased that the show generated an increase in attendance for the second consecutive year,” said Lindsay Roberts, director of the International Roofing Expo. Trade association Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute has scored more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space and 1,300 exhibitors and their event still is nine months away. UK-based UBM, through its UBM Asia division, has expanded even further in the Asia-Pacific Region, buying two trade shows and forming a joint venture to develop another one. Also, in the United States, UBM added onto its aviation division with another purchase. Trade Show Exhibitors Assn. Board Votes to Transfer Members, Assets to Exhibitor Appointed Contractor Assn.
Rumors recently had been swirling about the fate of the Trade Show Exhibitors Association, but now the organization’s fate has been sealed with its board voting to transfer its members, intellectual assets and administrative management to the Exhibitor Appointed Contractor Association. Alan Steel, a 30-year veteran of the trade show industry, has been named president and CEO of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center of New York. Steel is replacing Gerald T. McQueen, the center’s leader for the past 14 years, who resigned in October and stayed in his post until a successor was found. General service contractor Shepard Exposition Services has changed its ownership structure and now allows qualified employees to take part in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, known as an ESOP. In order to qualify, employees need to be full-time or part-time, working a minimum of 1.000 hours per year. Shepard has 438 qualified employees and offices that operate in 10 markets across the United States.
