ICCA: Singapore ranked top Asian city for meetings
According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), there were a record number of 12,558 rotating international association events in 2017.
That is 346 more than the figure recorded in 2016.
The top three ranked countries in 2017 were the same as last year: the U.S. (941 meetings), Germany (682 meetings) and the U.K. (592 meetings). In Asia, Japan hosted 414 meetings in 2017 and ranked the first in the region.
The other country in Asia to rank in the global top 10 is China, which hosted 376 meeting last year and ranked 8th worldwide. The only other Asian markets to rank in the top 20 were South Korea (13th worldwide) with 279 meetings and Australia (14th worldwide) with 258 meetings.
In terms of city rankings, Barcelona surpassed Paris and placed first worldwide in 2017, with 195 meetings. In Asia, Singapore remained 6th worldwide and ranked first in the region again, with 160 meetings.
Seoul with 142 meetings ranked 10th. Other Asian cities to rank in the top 20 global city rankings were Hong Kong (119 meetings), Bangkok (110 meetings) and Tokyo (101 meetings).
