FIME Show Named Largest Medical Event on HCEA's Top 50 List: Overall Medical Show Attendance Flat
The FIME Show, a medical supply trade show based out of Miami, snagged the No. 1 spot on the Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association’s 2012 Top 50 Medical Meetings list, with 54,147 total attendees.
Released a few weeks before the association’s annual meeting June 22-25 in Austin, Texas, the list represents the largest medical meetings in the U.S. ranked by attendance.
It was the first time in the past few years the top show hadn’t been either Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) or the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM), that respectively ranked Nos. 2 and 3 on the 2012 list.
Total reported attendance for these top three events were only separated by 600 attendees, “making it a very close group,” according to HCEA officials.
Rounding out the top five were two new entrants with the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Dental Association (ADA).
Overall reported healthcare professional attendance increased marginally by 0.64 percent, marking two years of slight growth in reported top 50 events.
However, total reported attendance was essentially flat with a 0.04 percent average reported increase.
“The data illustrates that while there may be growth overall in the number of healthcare professionals attending the top 50 medical shows, there is actually a decline in the ‘other’ attendance that comprises the overall total attendance figures,” said HCEA officials. “This likely highlights a decline in the number of staff an exhibitor brings to these shows.”
The sector that reported the largest number of top 50 shows was dental, with a total of seven dental meetings making the top 50. Six of these dental meetings rank in the top 15 events.
