Hollywood and Broadway Star Rita Moreno Set to Keynote 2023 TSNN Awards Luncheon

TSNN is beyond delighted to announce that Hollywood and Broadway Legend Rita Moreno will be the keynote for the 2023 TSNN Awards Education Conference luncheon, sponsored by Discover Puerto Rico.

Moreno has won all four of the most prestigious awards in show business: an Oscar, a Tony, two Emmys and a Grammy.  Her countless credits span more than eight decades, beginning with her Broadway debut at age 13.

She will be interviewed by Mariem Perez, the director and producer of the New York Times critic’s pick documentary "Rita Moreno, Just A Girl Who Decided To Go For It,” which acquired a theater distribution with Roadside Attractions and later a TV release on PBS and Netflix.

Moreno has starred on Broadway and London's West End, appeared in more than 50 feature films, countless television shows and has performed in numerous regional theaters, including her one-woman show, ”Life Without Makeup” at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Moreno wrapped production on the Netflix film “Family Switch,” starring opposite Jennifer Garner , set for holiday release 2023.

She recently starred in several blockbuster films, “Fast X” and “80 for Brady”; a holiday flick for Lifetime-TV, “Santa’s Bootcamp”; and hosted the 30th Anniversary Special, “Beauty and The Beast” on ABC-TV.  

Moreno also co-starred and served as an Executive Producer in 2022 on Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story.” 

Her documentary, “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It,” had its world debut at the Sundance Film Festival and then was released in theaters nationwide. 

The film also debuted on PBS’ American Masters series and is now streaming on Netflix. Moreno co-starred in the Latino reimagining of Norman Lear’s classic TV sitcom, One Day At A Time that aired for 4 seasons.  
  
In 2015, Moreno’s first ever all-Spanish language album, Una Vez Más, was produced by good friend, Emilio Estefan. Moreno is also a New York Times bestselling author with her first book, Rita Moreno: A Memoir, published by Celebra Books.

Recipient of the Peabody Career Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honor for her lifetime contributions to American culture, she was also honored by her peers as the 50th recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. She also served as Grand Marshalls for both the Rose Parade and National Puerto Rican Day Parade. 

Moreno has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush and the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama.  

Perez’s latest feature film, starring actor Ismael Cruz Córdova, “San Juan, beyond the walls,” is a historic documentary about the 500 years of the city of San Juan. The film became one of the top box office hits for 2022 in the theaters of Puerto Rico. 

Perez is a Sundance Momentum fellowship member with a trajectory of awarded documentaries, web series and fiction films, such as "De Puerto Rico Para El Mundo," "Diez En La Música," Emmy winner "Croatto, La Huella De Un Emigrante," “Cuando lo pequeño se hace grande,” and “Chamacas.” 

 

 

She is also the co-director and editor of the comedy feature "Maldeamores," executive produced by Benicio Del Toro, which won several international awards and was shortlisted at the Oscars for best foreign film representing Puerto Rico.
