UBM Asia's Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair Draws Increase in Exhibitors

October 10, 2011

UBM Asia’s Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, held in September at AsiaWorld-Expo, drew a record number of 3,454 exhibitors from 46 countries, representing a 13-percent increase, compared with 2009.

With the growth of exhibitors, the showfloor also increased from 120,000 square meters in 2009 to 130,000 square meters in 2011.

“We are very pleased to witness the success of the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair,” said Allen Ha, CEO of AsiaWorld-Expo Management Limited.  “This mammoth fair, along with other exhibitions and conferences at AsiaWorld-Expo, enabled the venue to make an economic contribution of some HK$13.4 billion in 2010, representing a 25-percent increase over 2009.”

He added, “It’s very encouraging to see that our efforts along with the organizer’s have paid off over the years. AsiaWorld-Expo offers exactly the right combination of facilities, international accessibility and services for today’s discerning and fast-growing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry.”

Besides exhibitor and showfloor growth, attendance also is expected to surpass last year’s attendee figure of 44,274 with double-digit increases, according to AsiaWorld-Expo officials.

In the first two days of the show, nearly 15,000 buyers visited AsiaWorld-Expo, an impressive 32-percent increase, compared with the previous year.

The show also attracted a strong contingent from mainland China, which accounted for 32 percent of all attendees and, for the first time, has overtaken Hong Kong as the top visitor group.

AsiaWorld-Expo is looking forward to even further growth with the venue cooperating for the first time with Global Sources and The Hong Kong Exporters’ Association to debut the “HKSMEIsle of Creativity@HKEA” Pavilion at the October edition of the China Sourcing Fairs, including the Gifts & Premiums Fair, Home Products Fair, Christmas & Seasonal Products Fair, Baby & Children’s Products Fair, and Medical & Health Products Fair scheduled Oct. 20-23
