Reed Exhibitions’ decision to bring its SinoFoldingCarton show to Beijing for the first time this year paid off with an expanded showfloor spanning 20,000 square meters and 300 exhibiting companies, 22 of which were new. The first edition of annual trade show Asia Bike attracted an excellent turnout, reporting the attendance of just under 12,000 trade visitors and 138 exhibiting brands at the Nanjing International Expo Centre. Held alongside Asia Outdoor, the four-day show ran from 27th to 30th July and occupied a total area of 12,000 square meters and 42,000 sq. m. respectively. NASDAQ-listed Global Sources has reported results for the quarter ended June 30. Revenues in the second quarter were US$66.5 million, up 13 percent, compared with US$58.6 in the same period last year. Net profit attributable to shareholders was US$10.1 million, jumped 24 percent, compared with 2010’s US$8.2 million. Revenues from mainland China were US$52.5 million, increased by 20 percent, compared with US$43.6 million recorded last year. IT and electronics trade show, CEATEC Japan, has agreed to collaborate with the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show this year in an effort to provide a strong message regarding Japan’s recovery following the earthquake-tsunami disaster in March 2011. The collaboration sees two of Japan’s largest and most influential industries (IT & electronics and automobile) combining to highlight the resilience of Japan’s manufacturing industry. Private equity firm Providence Equity Partners has acquired George Little Management for $173 million from the Daily Mail and General Trust, parent company of dmg world media. The acquisition will be made through a new holding company headed by Charles G. McCurdy, who previously was CEO of Canon Communications. This year’s Society of Independent Show Organizers’ Executive Conference - “Digital Declaration” - wrapped up Aug. 11 after not only covering various aspects of technology impacting the trade show industry, but also drawing more attendees. Reed Exhibitions’ Aluminium China broke all previous attendance records at its recent show, with 11,282 visitors from 83 countries and regions, a 25-percent jump from the 2010 edition. Of the visitors, 1,244 were international – 76 percent more than last year. In addition, 420 exhibitors were on the exhibit floor in July at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. New buyers at Global Sources’ Private Sourcing Events more than doubled for the first half of this year, according to company officials. Among new buyers were AEON, E.Leclerc, Forever 21, Fujitsu, J.C. Penney and Lidl. "As product costs increase, we are looking for ways to reduce expenses in other areas. UBM Asia’s Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair drew an 18-percent increase of attendees at its recent June event at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, with a record 22,452 visitors coming from 104 countries and regions, according to company officials. Of the 22,452 visitors, 42 percent were Hong Kong-based visitors, while 58 percent were from overseas, a growth of 30 percent, compared with last year’s June event.
