Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair Posts an 18 Percent Attendance Increase
UBM Asia’s Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair drew an 18-percent increase of attendees at its recent June event at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, with a record 22,452 visitors coming from 104 countries and regions, according to company officials.
Of the 22,452 visitors, 42 percent were Hong Kong-based visitors, while 58 percent were from overseas, a growth of 30 percent, compared with last year’s June event.
The largest group of visitors came from outside Hong Kong came from mainland China, with a total of 5,372, followed by India, Taiwan, the Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Japan, the United States, Indonesia, Singapore and Australia.
“The fair results left us in no doubt that China and India are driving jewelry demand worldwide today,” said Celine Lau, director of Jewellery Fairs for UBM Asia. “The number of buyers from these two robust markets increased by 83 percent and 48 percent, respectively.”
She added. “The buyers’ profile at the June Fair is becoming even more international. We saw a notable attendance of buyers from South America, such as Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Panama. The number of Canadian buyers and those from the United States also increased this year.”
The four-day event showcased a wide array of jewelry items in 56,000 square meters of exhibition space. In addition, more than 1,500 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions participated, a 24-percent increase, compared with last year’s event, also a record for the show.
“We are happy that the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair has the unswerving support of the global jewelry industry,” said Jimé Essink, president and CEO of UBM Asia.
He added, “The fair's continued growth in exhibition space and in the number of exhibitors and visitors affirms the business value this fair offers to the jewelry industry.”
The show also received high marks from exhibitors. “We’ve been to this fair for more than 10 times,” said Fredy Hui, representative of F&A Import & Export in Australia. “It is an important mid-year fair for sourcing merchandise for the fall season.”
Elin Li, director of E & CO Jewellery Pte Ltd in Singapore, added, “We have been participating in this fair for more than 10 years. This is an important mid-year fair because it brings us great opportunities to expand our business and meet lots of new customers from around the world, such as the Philippines and Malaysia. This fair is impressive. For sure, we will join again in 2012.”
The next edition of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will be June 21-24 at the HKCEC.
