ASAE Recruits Associations to Oppose Amendment Calling on Limited Government Travel to Meetings

Timed with the American Society of Association Executive’s annual legislative fly-in for American Associations Day, held March 18-19, the organization gathered letters to deliver to Senate offices opposing a proposed amendment to H.R. 933 that would prohibit federal agencies from sending more than 25 employees to any meeting or conference held in the United States.

NASFT Changes Name to Specialty Food Association

The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade has gone for a shorter name, now calling the organization instead more simply the Specialty Food Association.

The name change, according to association officials, is part of a larger effort to draw attention to the $75 billion specialty food industry and also will highlight new branding that will be launched June 30-July 2 at SFA’s Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.

NAB Show Set to Host 60 International Delegations, Attendees from 155 Countries

When the National Association of Broadcasters’ NAB Show kicks April 6-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, it truly will be an international affair, with 60 overseas delegations being represented, including first-timers from Croatia, Israel, Malaysia, Norway and the United Arab Emirates.

Also, about 30 percent of the more than 90,000 attendees to the show will come from 155 different countries.

The Rental Show Sees Attendance Uptick Fourth Year in a Row

With the recession far behind it and the equipment rental market continuing to trend upward, this year’s The Rental Show scored its fourth year in a row of increased attendance when it was held Feb. 10-13 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The 2013 show boasted 5,365 attendees, who came from throughout the U.S., Canada and more than 40 countries.

In addition, there were 2,480 businesses represented on the showfloor, which was the highest total since 2006.

SEMA Show Summit Helps Exhibitors Succeed

The Specialty Equipment Market Association does much more than just ‘talk the talk’ when officials there say they want exhibitors at SEMA Show to have a successful event.

The organization for the automotive specialty equipment industry will host a the SEMA Show Exhibitor Summit April 15-17, a unique conference specifically designed to help exhibitors improve performance at the annual event.

Discover Design, home to 116 companies showcasing inspired design and cutting-edge product innovation, is sold out for the International Housewares Association’s 2013 International Home + Housewares Show scheduled March 2-5 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Among the new companies exhibiting this year are Aesthetic Movement, Areaware, Teroforma, Legnoart, Menu and Present Time.

Returning in 2013 are Alessi, Blomus, Joseph Joseph, Magisso, Nambe, Room Copenhagen and Serene House.

Automate 2013 Breaks All-time High Attendance Record in Chicago

Shows posting record attendance numbers seem to be more and more commonplace these days, with the latest one being the biennial Automate 2013, which was collocated with Material Handling Association’s ProMat 2013 and held Jan. 21-24 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Automate 2013 was attended by a record 10,975 attendees from across the United States and 55 countries.

“Automate 2013 exceeded all of our expectations,” said Jeff Burnstein, president of the Association for Advancing Automation, the primary sponsor of Automate 2013.

International Production & Processing Expo Draws 25,000-plus to Atlanta

The 2013 International Production & Processing Expo attracted more than 25,000 attendees Jan. 29-Jan. 31 to the Georgia World Congress Center, exceeding the goal established by the three associations that run the show, according to show management.

In addition, IPPE had 1,189 exhibitors with more than 430,000 net square feet of exhibit space.

The show was sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, the American Feed Industry Association and the American Meat Institute.
