PCMA's Debut Medical Meetings Summit in London Featured Top-level Speakers, Content

The Professional Convention Management Association’s debut Medical Meetings Summit, held July 17-20 at ExCeL London, drew not only some of the top-level strategists in the medical meetings community, but also featured high-quality speakers and education sessions.
The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, welcomed the audience at the event, which included medical association meeting planners and CEOs from around the globe.
“The Mayor’s presence at the welcome serves to underline the importance the city puts on this sector of the meetings and events industry, and its commitment to high quality education and learning” PCMA officials said before the event opened.
The educational program was curated by PCMA and was designed to mix keynote speakers with specific and relevant expertise in this area of the market, with group, peer-to-peer and shared learning across the senior delegation.
The first day keynote address was given by Magnus Lindkvist, trend spotter and futurologist, on “The Future of Global Healthcare”.
The second day included a keynote workshop session with Franck Schuurmans, PH.D. on reinvention and future scenarios.
Schuurmans is an expert in strategic planning, decision-making, innovation and corporate governance, as well as a highly published and speaker at conferences and meetings throughout North America and Europe.
“This is an ambitious and comprehensive program of education and one that we feel confident will drive new learning across the medical meetings sector,” said Sherrif Karamat, CAE, COO, PCMA.
Karamat added, “We’re privileged to have some of the leading minds converge in London for what will be an outstanding summit.”
Other content included sessions on: “What Do Future Healthcare Trends Mean for Your Society and Medical Meetings?”; “What are the Opportunities for Reinvention in Medical Societies?”; “Codes and Compliance – A Moderated Panel Discussion on Strategies for Medical Meetings and Global Pharma and Device Compliance”; and “Your Strategies for Compliance”.
Throughout the meeting, a series of Tech Lunches also were hosted by local companies that offered attendees the chance to pose challenges and ask for advice on how technology can input and enhance their meetings.

New Wave Experiences

The Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas also experienced a recent remodel of all 424 rooms. Swingers, a high-end, adults-only golf and entertainment concept will debut in Fall 2024.
Enhanced Technology
Creating a truly effective conference venue requires careful thought into what a business needs: the right technology, capacity, and inspiration to bring ideas to the next level. As part of the resort’s refresh, Mandalay Bay implemented state-of-the-art technology upgrades, installing cutting-edge Cat6A Ethernet cabling throughout the convention center. This advancement doubles the frequency of data transmission, enabling lightning-fast speeds up to 9400% faster. The convention center now boasts 11 dynamic digital walls, spanning up to 24' x 13', strategically positioned for brand placements, sponsorships and targeted event messaging. Additionally, attendees can benefit from 20 double-sided 55" mobile flexible display units, facilitating effortless navigation to meeting rooms and events. RFID locks were installed on all meeting room doors, and over 200 motion detection cameras have been placed throughout the space.
Refreshing New Design & Fine Art
The newly remodeled convention space provides a bright and vibrant atmosphere that complements Mandalay Bay's tropical-inspired brand. Featuring white-washed walls and ceilings adorned with bold floral patterns in cerulean and coral tones, the space is complemented by warm walnut accent walls. In addition to the redesign of all pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and ballrooms, Mandalay Bay's 1 million square feet of exhibit space has undergone a rejuvenation, including new paint, covered pillars and relocated strobe lights.
