The 40th anniversary edition of Labelexpo Europe concluded its largest, most international show to date last month. Held Sept. 24-27 at Brussels Expo in Belgium, the 2019 event covered nine halls and nearly 40,000 square meters (430,500 square feet) of floor space, up from 37,600 square meters (404,700 square feet) in 2017. The show had more live demonstrations and offerings in the label and package printing technology space than ever before, drawing nearly 38,000 attendees from 140 countries.

Show officials report that India, China and Japan were particularly well represented in the delegation, and Eastern Europe attendance was up from 2017—especially from Croatia, Lithuania, Romania and Russia. Brazilian delegates also increased from the last edition of the show.

“We are delighted that our 40th anniversary edition of Labelexpo Europe has been our largest, most international to date, especially as it is now rapidly moving forward into a show that encompasses not just labels but also package printing,” said Lisa Milburn, managing director of the Labelexpo Global Series.

She continued, “This was clear from the incredible array of flexible packaging innovations and hybrid machinery on the showfloor, giving label converters ever more options to diversify their businesses.”

Milburn reported that 83 percent of space for Labelexpo Europe 2021 was booked on-site at the 2019 show. “This demonstrates that the global label and package printing industry remains as vibrant as ever, and that this show… is still a vital platform at the forefront of the entire supply chain,” she said.

One particularly popular area on the showfloor was the Flexible Packaging Arena, which featured 11 live demonstrations. Attendees learned more about sustainable innovations in the Sustainability Insight Café, as well.

Labelexpo Europe’s well-attended education program was also the show’s most extensive to date, with three master classes and one workshop—all hosted by the Label Academy.

On the first day of the show, Milburn presented further details about Labelexpo’s latest addition to its portfolio, Labelexpo Mexico (read more on that here).
