CIBTM on Track to be Largest Ever; Event Scores Two Central Government Sponsorships

Even though it’s still more than a month away, Reed Exhibitions’ CIBTM, The China Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition is on track to be the biggest ever, with more than 300 exhibitors, a 21-percent increase, compared with last year’s event, as well as approximately 300 hosted buyers, a 25-percent increase, compared with 2010.

CIBTM, set to take place Aug. 30–Sept. 1 at the China National Convention Centre, also will have 14 domestic tourism boards that will participate as exhibitors this year, including Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan, Hangzhou, Gansu, Sanya, Xiamen, Tianjin, Quijiang, Haidian, Dongcheng, Pinggu, Changping and Xicheng.

In addition, there are more than 5,500 pre-scheduled appointments on tap and an increase in the number of professional education seminars for the event taking place.

“There is no doubt that China’s meetings industry has huge potential with predictions that the sector is a $150 billion market with annual growth of 20 percent (HelmsBriscoe April 2011),” said Jeffrey Xu, CIBTM Project Manager.

He added, “This year’s event is clearly following the trend of growth. The impact that CIBTM will have on both inbound and outbound MICE business will clearly establish it as the annual business forum. It is also the only event endorsed and supported by the China National Tourism Organisation (CNTO).”

Not only has CNTO recently signed on with its support, but also the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development is backing CIBTM.

“We are delighted that China National Tourism Administration and Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development are co-hosting CIBTM 2011; an event that has become China’s national-level meetings exhibition,” said Craig Moyes, Reed Travel Exhibitions' Group Exhibition Director, Meetings and Events Portfolio.

He added, “At a time when the industry is set for continued growth and expansion in China, CIBTM will continue to play a leading role in the development of the meetings industry throughout region.”

According to the China Meetings Industry research presented at CIBTM 2010, the results showed that the world’s second largest economy is predicting significant growth potential with increased numbers of events using a wide range of destinations.

With that likely in mind, several new international companies have also committed to attending this year’s show, including Tourism Australia, Scandinavia Tourism Board, and Geneva Tourism & Conventions they join companies including ,Others include Langham Hotels, Carlson Hotels, Meet Taiwan, Silversea Cruises, Millenium Hotels. South African Tourism, Sicilia Convention Bureau, Tourism Ireland, Government of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and the Thailand Convention Bureau.

There also will be more than 20 new exhibitors from China, such as Pangu 7 Star Hotel, Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, Haidian District Tourism Bureau, Mission Hills China and Ocean Spring Resort, to name a few.

“Our goal once again, is to help connect the China meetings market with the rest of Asia and the world,” Xu said.
