March 27, 2014

Tarsus Group’s Trade Show News Network (TSNN) is pleased to announce the release of the 2013 TSNN Top 250 Trade Shows in the United States.

Culled from show management and data supplied to TSNN, the list represents the top 250 trade shows held last year in the U.S. ranked by net square footage.

The full, searchable list, sponsored this year exclusively by Expocad, can be found HERE.

The Consumer Electronic Association’s massive International CES show held last year in January in Las Vegas topped the list for the second year in a row with impressive growth, jumping another 62,000-plus net square feet from 2012 to 2013, scoring a total 1,924,650 net sq. ft.

“The 2013 International CES was full of innovation and included executives from every major industry that touches technology,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association.

He added, “We are pleased to be recognized by Trade Show News Network for the success of the 2013 CES, which drew global business leaders from more than 160 countries. It was an amazing event: from some 20,000 new product launches, to CEA’s book launch of “Ninja Innovation”, to the innovation that prevailed across 37 football fields of technology at the 2013 CES.”

Coming in at second place was the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ biennial ICUEE - The International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition, with 1,173,957 net sq. ft. in October last year at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.

“ICUEE 2013 was one of our best ever, generating such positive feedback as the utility construction industry’s go-to resource for the latest product innovations and industry best practices. Attendees said this is where they prepare for the future and exhibitors cited the high quality of attendees,” said Sara Truesdale Mooney, senior director, exhibitions and strategy for AEM.

"Louisville has had the unique pleasure of hosting ICUEE for many years," said Karen Williams, president and CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau.

She added, "We have watched it thrive and always look forward to many more years of growth and partnership."

Coming in at Nos. 3 and 4 are AMC, Inc.’s The January Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market and The July Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, respectively.

Once again, the city with the most shows on the 2013 TSNN Top 250 Trade Show list was Las Vegas, with 53.

“Las Vegas is honored to be recognized as the No. 1 trade show destination for the 19th year in a row, and we share this achievement with our colleagues in the meetings and convention industry of Las Vegas who make this ranking possible,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.

He added, “The success of Las Vegas is a testament to our ability to provide exceptional customer service and more value for the experience than any other destination.”

Chicago scored the second most number of shows on the list in 2013, with 29, followed by Orlando, with 24.

Some of the other top cities included New York City, with 16; Atlanta and New Orleans, with 10; Denver, with 9; Dallas, with 8; Anaheim, San Francisco and Houston, with 7; Boston, Indianapolis, Philadelphia and San Diego, with 6; and Louisville had 5 last year.

The newly-minted Emerald Expositions (formerly Nielsen Expositions) snagged 10 shows on the list last year; Reed Exhibitions was close behind with 9; SmithBucklin and UBM Canon tied with 7 each; George Little Management, now part of Emerald, has 6; Hall-Erickson, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Hanley Wood Exhibitions and National Trade Productions all have 5; J. Spargo and Advanstar Communications both have 4; and rounding out the list was AMC, Inc., with 3.

January was the busiest month in 2013 for shows, with 29, followed closely by February and Mat, both with 28. The slowest month of the year, as usual, was December, with 7 shows on the list.
