Cvent Acquires DoubleDutch

June 13, 2019

Event technology giant Cvent has once again expanded its reach, this time through the acquisition of San Francisco-based mobile app provider DoubleDutch. Over the past decade, Cvent has grown its portfolio and technology base through acquisitions of companies including Social Tables, Passkey and Kapow along with merging with Lanyon.

Cvent officials say that the company’s acquisition of DoubleDutch expands its commitment to the onsite experience, helping it accelerate its investment in mobile event technology. Cvent’s mobile and web application portfolio already includes CrowdCompass and QuickMobile.

“It’s incredibly exciting to have such a strong mix of mobile event technology under the Cvent umbrella,” Reggie Aggarwal, CEO and founder of Cvent, told TSNN.

Aggarwal said that CrowdCompass, QuickMobile and DoubleDutch will operate independently for now, but hinted that Cvent may develop a new best-of-breed mobile app in the future.

“Our technology team, more than 1,500 strong, has already been working on ways to take the best of each of these market-leading offerings to build the most innovative mobile event app in the marketplace,” he said.

Aggarwall added, “We want to revolutionize the way we use mobile technology to engage with live events. There are more than a billion smartphones in use around the world, and mobile apps are an integral part of our lives – but there is still a massive untapped opportunity to use mobile technology to increase engagement and help event planners customize, scale and enhance the event experience.”

More than 500 customers use the DoubleDutch Live Engagement Platform, which includes event registration, content management and both mobile and web apps. The company’s message has been centered around engagement, offering the ability for customers to “transform their events into connected communities that drive business outcomes.” This message is particularly appealing to the corporate tech sector, and customers include well-known corporations such as SAP, LinkedIn and Akamai.

“DoubleDutch is an innovator in the mobile event app space, and both Cvent and DoubleDutch have a shared mission to unlock the business value of human connection,” said Lawrence Coburn, CEO and founder of DoubleDutch.

He added, “We are incredibly proud to join the market-leading team at Cvent. With their global reach and scale, we can fuel our passion to change the way people connect, learn and grow at live events.”

Cvent officials told TSNN that Coburn will transition out of his role over the coming months. No other details on planned organizational structure changes have been made public. Officials did, however, share that cost reduction is not a factor in the DoubleDutch acquisition, and that the company plans to hire nearly 1,000 people around the world this year.

Cvent’s customer base today includes 25,000 organizations and 300,000 users worldwide.
