New Omni Hotel Slated Next to Boston Convention & Exhibition Center

April 13, 2017

The Boston Convention & Exhibition Center will be getting much-needed nearby hotel room inventory when a new Omni Hotel & Resorts-branded hotel opens in early 2021.

An agreement for the $550 million project was signed between the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts.

With a variety of innovative guest amenities, the hotel will be among the city’s largest, with 1,050-plus rooms and suites, as well as 110,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, which includes a 25,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom.

These are key features that meeting planners and customers have consistently cited as a key priority when choosing Boston for their future event.

“In response to customer demand for additional hotel inventory around the BCEC, we are pleased to be able to offer another choice to our clients”, said Milt Herbert, executive director of the Boston Convention Marketing Center.

He added, “Omni has always been a great partner for us and we are very excited to expand our relationship.”

The new Omni will create highly desirable hotel rooms and meeting space directly across the street from the BCEC.

The hotel also will reduce transportation costs and increase flexibility and inventory for customers by improving the balance of hotel inventory for both the BCEC and Hynes Convention Center in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

The BCEC is home to several, annual large shows on the TSNN top 250 trade show list, such as the Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, ranked No. 102, and Yankee Dental Congress, ranked No. 191.

With this latest project, Omni adds to its portfolio of full service convention center hotels in Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville and other locations.

“Omni is a world-class hotel owner and operator and its long-term commitment to South Boston will be a tremendous asset for our customers as we compete to bring events to Boston from around the world,” said MCCA Executive Director David Gibbons.

He added, “This is a game changer for the BCEC and we couldn’t be more excited that it is right outside our front door.”
