Atlanta CVB Leaps Into the Metaverse With Groundbreaking Marketing Platform

September 2, 2022

The Atlanta CVB has become one of the first destination marketing organizations to embrace the metaverse with the launch of a marketing platform designed to allow event professionals and prospective visitors to explore the city and its venues through a rendered 3D virtual experience.

Atlanta Meta World is a visually realistic virtual world representation of Atlanta that enables users to discover the city while interacting with other virtual visitors and representatives of venues and ACVB in real time, in addition to viewing presentations on and the latest developments in the city.

“If customers will be shopping for meeting and event destinations and travel experiences in the metaverse, ACVB wants to be there to influence their decision making,” said William Pate, president and CEO of ACVB. “If the metaverse realizes its full potential over the next decade, destinations will be early adopters to the platform to market and promote immersive experiences in their cities.”

According to Andrew Wilson, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of ACVB, the platform is a win-win for everyone involved in bringing event groups and leisure travelers to the destination.

"We are excited to add the metaverse to our marketing mix,” said Andrew Wilson, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of ACVB. “This will also provide our hospitality partners with the opportunity to create their own metaverse experiences within the platform."

Centennial Olympic ParkUsers begin their experience in Atlanta Meta World by choosing and customizing an avatar, and once they enter the platform, they are taken directly to ACVB’s visitor information center in Centennial Olympic Park. From there, users can explore the 22-acre greenspace, located on Georgia World Congress Center’s campus in the heart of downtown.

The experience currently allows users to discover the many areas of the park and will soon provide virtual world access to meeting and event venues, hotels and attractions throughout Atlanta as those areas of the platform are built out. Destination presentations and new development videos will be shown in Centennial Olympic Park’s amphitheater, and venue representatives will conduct presentations before guiding users around the facilities on a virtual tour.

Atlanta Meta World was built on a Unity Software technology platform through a collaboration between Exploring Digital and MA Software Systems, both Atlanta-based companies.
