Industry Support Award

Beth Cowperthwaite, SVP, Communications, Emerald

Cowperthwaite has supported the trade show industry by serving as the communications lead or support for a number of important industry efforts that deal with advocacy or sustainability, including Exhibitions and Conferences Alliance, Legislative Action Day, Global Exhibitions Day, the Finding the Future, Together report and the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative.

She joined Emerald in February 2019 and currently leads an extensive range of external and internal corporate communication activities, including strategic media relations, public affairs, crisis communications, change management and executive positioning/thought leadership.

Cowperthwaite is also responsible for sharing Emerald’s story across all channels, including traditional PR, social media, thought leadership, employee communications and company events.

She has 20 years of experience leading corporate communications, public relations, and business development for global organizations serving the exhibitions, fashion, technology, healthcare and manufacturing industries.

Prior to joining Emerald, she was vice president of corporate communications for Informa Markets, responsible for leading communication strategy and driving external and internal brand awareness. Prior to Informa Markets, Cowperthwaite served as vice president of communications and director of public relations for UBM Americas (now Informa plc).

Cowperthwaite, who holds a Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University, resides in Connecticut with her husband and daughter.

“Being recognized as the 2023 TSNN Industry Support Award recipient is an honor and a privilege,” Cowperthwaite said. “Throughout my career in the events industry, I've experienced first-hand the power of face-to-face events and witnessed the true magic they can create. As a communicator, I take great pride in the work done alongside my peers to shine a spotlight on what our industry and people have achieved and what and who we aspire to become.”

She continued, “I'm sincerely grateful to all who have supported and guided my growth, especially Hervé Sedky, President and CEO of Emerald, who introduced me to the initiatives that will pave the way for our industry's future and provided the resources to help me advocate and foster positive change.”

Last week, TSNN unveiled the 2023 TSNN Awards top honorees for the Industry Icon Award, Sustainability Award and DEI Leadership Award.
