The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the Seoul Tourism Organization announced a plan to expand their MICE cooperation framework to encompass the educational arena.
The two universities of Seoul - Kyung Hee University and Hallym University of Graduate Studies - signed a MoU with TCEB and Seoul Tourism Organization to establish a bilateral ‘Academic Exchange Programme’.
The purpose is to establish an inclusive foundation in Thailand and Seoul for creating future MICE leaders in Asia.

Hong Kong-listed Pico Far East Holdings has announced interim results for the six months ended 30th April 2012. The company’s turnover was US$233 million, an increase of 30 percednt, compared with the same period in 2011. Profit attributable to owners of the company in the period was US$12 million, a growth of 13 percdent year-on-year. Dilute earnings per share in the six-month period were HK$0.0765.

UBM live, a subsidiary of UBM plc., reported a record attendance of 14,473 attendees at its Japanese Pharma Portfolio of events this year – an increase of 17 percent, compared with 2010. The collection of events were held at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center March 21-23 and included CPhI Japan, ICSE Japan, P-MEC Japan and the new Pharmatec Japan.

Exhibition organiser Tarsus Group will launch a new show, Label Summit Indonesia 2013, under its Labelexpo Global Series brand. The event will serve the growing print and packaging industry in Indonesia and South East Asia, focusing on label and packaging printing converters/printers, brand owners and designers.
Label Summit Indonesia will be held May 29-30 at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua in Bali. The annual event will alternate each year between Bali and Jakarta and is supported by the Indonesian Packaging Federation and other regional trade bodies.

The Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (PACEOS) announced the launch of a new advanced MICE course in a bid to improve the quality and competence of local industry players. Scheduled to run Aug. 16-17 this year, the course will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Manila.
The programme will include training led by industry experts provided by PACEOS’ learning division – the Philippine MICE Academy. Cost of participation is US$189 per person with an early bird rate of US$165. The MICE course is also open to non-PACEOS members.

Northstar Travel Media, a business-to-business media company serving the travel industry, has gone from one private equity owner – BV Investment Partners – to another, Wicks Group, which purchased the company for an undisclosed sum.
“We are very impressed with the growth of Northstar Travel Media over the last few years during challenging economic conditions,” said Dan Kortick, a managing partner at Wicks.

Two suppliers – the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Shepard Exposition Services – both scored lucrative events contracts.
Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2012 will take place July 8-12 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
An estimated 15,000 attendees representing technology companies in 156 countries will take part in the event, according to show organizers.
WPC 2012 is set to be three times bigger than the last time the event was in Toronto in 2004.

Trade show veteran Kevin O’Keefe has taken a new post at GLM as senior vice president, leaving his position at UBM Canon Communications at which he oversaw several 2011 TSNN Top 250 shows, such as Medical Design & Manufacturing West, East and Midwest, as well as other shows in the UBM Canon portfolio.
O’Keefe has worked in the trade show industry for 20 years and will assume many of the duties of GLM’s departing Senior Vice President Phil Robinson, who has decided to leave the company as of Aug. 1 after 22 years, but will remain as an advisor through year-end, according… more

Chicago just received a big boost with the American Library Association signing on to bring its annual trade show to the city in 2020, 2023 and 2026.
The association already was committed to having the event in the Windy City in 2013 and 2017.
Each show is projected to bring in $50 million in estimated direct expenditures per year, according to Choose Chicago officials.
